For Beginners

Grovedaughter Witchery: Practical Spellcraft

This book is a must have for anyone just starting in their craft! Grovedaughter Witchery is a straightforward, no nonsense guide to everything you need to know to get started. Bree NicGarran covers everything from the most practical subjects to how to create your own charms, powders and potions along with plenty of fantastic spells!

Mastering Witchcraft: A Practical Guide for Witches, Warlocks & Covens

Mastering Witchcraft is from the 70's so there are some problematic elements (sexism, etc.) but it's still an excellent book for building foundational knowledge and it's a great introduction to more ritualized magic!

From Curious To Casting

Is this a shameless self promotion? Maybe so but I created this book with the beginner in mind! After helping to tutor hundreds of brand new witches through the beginning stages of learning the craft I've got a pretty solid idea of what the most common stumbling blocks are. I've written From Curious To Casting to help you navigate through those common pitfalls effortlessly, allowing you to skip the difficulties and get straight to practicing witchcraft!

Sigil Crafting

Practical Sigil Magic is my go-to book about sigil crafting! I seriously LOVE this book, it's a wonderfully in depth and easy to understand guide to everything you need to know about sigils. This book is also one of the more true-to form guides to sigils that I've found, it draws entirely from the chaos magic roots of this form of magic so you get a really good feel for sigil crafting in its intended form.

Labyrinthos Academy has a collection of free apps that are perfect for the tarot beginner! They make the process simple and fun and the best part: you don't even have to commit to buying a tarot deck to get started!

Mrs. B's Guide to Household Witchery by Kris Bradley

Witchcraft for the Hearth & Home

For those of you who are looking to bring more magic into your home I'd suggest checking out Mrs. B's Guide to Household Witchery. It's a fantastic guide to bringing natural and magical influences into your home and it focuses on using household objects and activities to create magic! Read How To Make Your Home A Magical Sanctuary.

Magical Herbalism

Cunningham's Encyclopedia of Magical Herbs is a comprehensive guide to magical herbalism and a cornerstone of every herbal witches bookshelf. My favorite thing about this book is that it includes an index of herbal folk names which comes in very handy if you've ever tried to use spells from old grimoires!

Taking Up The Runes is an incredibly in depth guide to rune magic and divination. It's certainly not for the faint of heart (this book is LONG) but if you're looking to dig deep into a rune practice and truly find connection with this form of magic, this is the book to do it with.

Art Magic

Before I tell you about this amazing book I have to admit two things. First, it's not technically about witchcraft and second I am beyond a shadow of a doubt kind of a fanatic about this book. Big Magic completely changed the way I viewed my art AND my craft and allowed me to reach beyond what I even thought was possible in the realm of art magic. If you're an artist who's interested in incorporating witchcraft into your art Big Magic is a must read!

The Law of Attraction

The law of attraction can be a hairy subject in witchcraft communities, some people love it, some people... well, not so much. For me, I think it's just a way to apply magic to your ENTIRE life. Instead of only working magic when you're at your altar the law of attraction states that you're always practicing magic (because humans pretty much ARE magic!) and #ActuallyICan is an amazing primer on how to go about taking the fullest advantage of that.
