Even if you consider yourself to be a generally happy person, you’ll always have those days when you need a little boost to keep your vibe up. It’s just part of being human.  

Personally, I wanted to write this article because I recently went through a difficult situation. It was the kind of situation where I felt totally wronged, but other than putting up boundaries and distancing myself the best I could, there was nothing more I could do. The person who had hurt me didn’t apologize, and worse, didn’t even believe she was in the wrong.

To be honest, it wore on me. The resentment stuck with me for weeks after. Every time I thought about the situation, a little bit of my energy leaked out, leaving me feeling weak and powerless.

How do you get out of a place like that? Can you even perform magic when you’re feeling that low? The answer to the latter question is: absolutely.

As witches, we have SO many resources to pull from when we want to feel better. Nature, altars, magical tools, and rituals can all have a positive impact on our personal lives. With magic, we have the power of the universe at our fingertips. While there’s no easy fix for the blues, witches have a special advantage over non-witches. Witchcraft gives us a practical system for taking back our power and raising our vibe.  

I also want to add a disclaimer here. The spells featured in this article are for boosting your mood. The goal of this kind of magic is to add some joy back into your life and provide practical ways to feel powerful again. If you’re dealing with deep sadness or struggling with mental illness, this magic is NOT a substitute for medical assistance. Feel free to try all of these spells, but always make sure you get the help you need!

So if you’re ready to turn that witchy frown upside-down, break out your magical tools! Here are five spells to raise your vibe.

Change Your Clothes Spell

When you’re going through your day and something happens to lower your vibe, perform this spell for a quick mood boost.

Before you do anything, stand for a moment, feeling the full weight of your emotions. Cry if you want, yell, ball your hands into fists—do whatever it takes to shake up the heavy energy inside of you.

Next, shed your clothing, one piece at a time. As you’re doing this, imagine you are physically peeling the negativity off your body to be replaced with fresh, neutral energy. Drop your clothes on the ground and gaze at them. Visualize your negative energy settling into your discarded clothes. You can envision the energy any way you like. I like to see it as sparkly black glitter.

Now that you’ve gotten rid of that negative energy, roll your shoulders back and stand up as straight as possible. How do you feel? Lighter? A little happier? Check in with your body, mind, and emotions. Be honest with yourself and be ok with whatever you’re feeling at this point.

After that, gather up the outfit you’re about to put on. Hold it in your arms. Visualize sparkly gold or silver energy flowing down from the sky and covering both you and your clothes. Put on the outfit and know that you’ve cleansed all negativity from the day. You have a fresh start and are now surrounded with positive energy.

If you’re not at home and not able to change your clothes, keep a pair of socks in your purse, car or office drawer. Do the ritual, but imagine all the negative energy settling in your socks before you take them off. Visualize the positive energy enveloping you as you put on your new socks.

Musical Messages Ritual

To perform this ritual, take a bath or go for a walk. It doesn’t matter what you do, as long as the activity is meditative and enjoyable.

Take a moment to close your eyes and connect to your source of power. This can be your intuition, higher power, deities or spirit guides. Ask your source of power to send you a message through the music to encourage and support you.

Pick an upbeat playlist that you’re unfamiliar with and listen to it on shuffle mode. Spotify or Pandora have great playlist options, but go with whatever music platform you use most. Set the intention that your source of power will communicate with you through the playlist you’ve selected.

Keep a journal or something to take notes on close to you during this ritual. Jot down any thoughts or emotions that come up as you’re listening to the playlist. The message your source of power is sending you might become clear to you immediately, or it might take a little longer for you to receive it. Just know that your message is coming, and it’s going to be just what you need to hear.

Bird Feeder Spell

When you’re feeling down, it can sometimes be beneficial to take your attention off your pain and focus on helping someone or something else.

To perform this spell, put up a bird feeder outside your home and fill it with birdseed. Sit near the bird feeder and take in the sights and sounds of nature. Open up your senses and take in everything you can. Watch, listen, inhale the smells in the air, and run your fingers along the different textures.

Visualize the birds in your area flying to your bird feeder and perching on the ledge while they eat the seeds. Maybe some birds will land on your bird feeder while you’re meditating.

Ask yourself: How does it feel to be connected to the birds in this way? How does it feel to slow down and enjoy the comforting lullaby of nature?

Know that others will help you the way you’ve helped the birds. As a witch, your practice connects you to nature in a special way. It will take care of you, just as you take care of it. Your act of kindness will make an impact on the world, no matter how small.

Feel free to journal about this experience. Sit and meditate at your bird feeder any time you want to raise your vibe.

Collect Happiness Walking Spell

Another way to raise your vibe when you’re feeling down is to create something beautiful.

Go for a walk on your favorite nature trail. Bring a small bag along with you. As you walk, look for things around you that make you happy. This could be anything you find beautiful, unique or comforting. Look for interesting leaves, pebbles, flowers, feathers, or pieces of bark.

Note: Make sure you familiarize yourself with the laws in your area. It’s illegal to pick flowers or remove plants from certain areas. If you live in a place where you’re not allowed to collect pieces of nature, head to your local craft store. Many craft and hobby stores sell feathers, crystal beads and other natural items that you can use for this spell.

Once you’ve gathered all your materials, light a tea light anointed with orange essential oil. As the candle burns, make a piece of art with your collected items from your walk. Use a sheet of paper or cardstock and arrange your pieces of nature on the paper, securing them with glue. Work on your art with the intention that you are making something uniquely “you” and beautiful. When your tea light has burned out, your spell is complete. Set your artwork on a window sill or on your altar, and smile at it every time you see it. Allow the artwork you created to lift your spirits for as long as you choose to display it.  

Cry It Out Ritual

When you feel especially down-in-the-dumps, go to bed. Who cares if it’s the middle of the day? This ritual is a like a reset button on your day.

Set an alarm for twenty minutes. Get in bed and pull the covers over your head. Let yourself cry as hard as you want. Don’t worry about other people hearing you, just go for it. Do this for the full twenty minutes.

When you feel like you’ve gotten it all out of your system, get out of bed, and light your favorite cleansing incense. My go-to smoke cleansing incense is cedar or sandalwood. Walk around your bed and allow the smoke to get rid of all the lingering negativity that you just emptied out in your bed. Finally, make your bed. This action symbolizes that you’ve faced your pain, and you’re moving on. As you make your bed, smooth down the blankets and sheets like you’re wiping tears off the cheeks of a young child. Be delicate and loving.

You’ve now released your negativity, and are ready to continue on with your day with a blank slate and an open heart.

It’s Ok To Be Sad

Did I mention it’s also ok to feel sad? Yes, this article is all about raising your vibe and banishing negativity, but sometimes, you just need to sit with your emotions. That’s ok. Honor that within yourself. Witchcraft will ALWAYS be there for you when you need it. You don’t have to come to your altar with a big smile every day. You can be sad, angry, rejected, or lonely and STILL be powerful. If you’re living a full life with an open heart, you’re bound to encounter some negativity. The key is to acknowledge the pain, don’t judge it, and let it pass through. Witchcraft will meet you wherever you are, no matter what.
