4 Awesome Self Love Spells Every Witch Should Know

Self love has become a buzzword all around the internet—and for good reason! When we take time to celebrate ourselves, we feel wonderful. This is especially important for us as witches, because many spells are powered by our feelings. The great thing is that we can seamlessly integrate self love right into our witchcraft by performing self love spells right alongside our other spells with the help of crystals, candles, journaling, and magical card decks.

The deeper you go with your self love magic, the more powerful your witchcraft will become. Use these spells and rituals to cultivate unconditional self-love, day in and day out!

Self Love Birthday Candle Spell

I love performing this spell first thing in the morning or right before I go to bed. It uses birthday candles—which most people have on hand—and it only takes about ten minutes to burn the entire candle and complete the spell.

What You’ll Need:

  • A birthday candle
  • Rose, orange, sandalwood, or jasmine essential oil
  • A rose quartz crystal
  • An agate slice
  • Himalayan pink salt
  • A lighter

Pick a candle to use for your self love spell. I love to use pink, red, white, or gold for this type of magic, but feel free to use whatever colored candle you want! This spell is all about honoring yourself, so pick whatever candle is calling out to you.

Next, anoint your candle with your essential oil, brushing the candle with upward strokes.

Carefully use the lighter to melt the bottom of the candle over the agate slice until a few drops of wax fall onto the agate. Remember to be safe when using fire in your magic. Quickly press the bottom of the birthday candle upright onto the agate slice so the soft wax adheres it to the slice.

Sit in front of your candle and cleanse your space with a white light meditation. If you’re new to this kind of energy work, check out my Energy Work courses. Sprinkle a circle of Himalayan pink salt around your candle to keep it protected during the spell.

Place a rose quartz crystal by your candle to reinforce your intention for self love.

Light the candle and gaze into the flame as it burns. Use this time to think about all the things you love about yourself, all the things you’ve accomplished so far, and all the things you are striving for. If a negative thought flits into your mind, try to turn it into a positive. For example, if you find yourself thinking about how you said the wrong thing in your business meeting, reframe the thought to something like, “I honored myself by speaking up in the meeting even if I didn’t get it exactly right that time. I’m going to continue to speak up because I know my ideas are valuable.”

Sit quietly until the candle burns out. Don’t leave the candle unattended and make sure the candle doesn’t go out or tip over during your spell. This takes about ten minutes. When the flame goes out, your spell is complete and you’ve successfully awoken your self love inside of you.

Self Love Cinnamon Elixir

Cinnamon is a powerful herb that is used in a variety of spells. It is said to help with love, prosperity, spiritual connection, protection, and luck. It’s also really delicious! Try making this simple, yet potent elixir when you want to give yourself some extra loving.

What You Need:

  • Water
  • Whole cinnamon sticks
  • A glass jar
  • A marker
  • A pot or kettle

First, draw a symbol that represents self love (whatever that means to you) onto the bottom of your jar with a marker. This could be a sigil you’ve created that means self love, a heart, a drawing of some kind, or affirmations such as “I am worthy of love. I was created to love. I am surrounded with love.” You can also simply write, “self love”.

Next, fill the jar with water and place it in your garden or under the shade of a tree. Let it sit there for at least three hours so it can absorb the steady, loving energy of the earth.

Once you’ve charged your water, pour it into a pot or kettle and bring it to a rolling boil. As you’re waiting for your water to boil, hold your cinnamon sticks in your hands and think about an experience that conjures up feelings of pure love. This could be the day you brought home your new puppy, or the morning your significant other brought you breakfast in bed. Spend some time visualizing these memories until you feel like you’re bubbling with loving energy. When the water begins to boil, imagine all your warm feelings flowing down your arms into the cinnamon sticks. Drop the cinnamon sticks into the water and turn off the heat. Use one cinnamon stick for every eight ounces of water.

Let the cinnamon sticks steep in the water for ten minutes. Then pour your cinnamon tea into a mug and enjoy your self love elixir. Savor the spicy smell and taste of the cinnamon. Notice the warmth of the liquid through your mug and how the steam feels against your lips, nose, and cheeks. Visualize the powerful liquid seeping into every cell of your body, filling you with love from the inside out. As you continue to sip, pay attention to any sensations that arise in your body, emotions you feel, or thoughts that pop into your mind. You can journal about these experiences, or just sit quietly in meditation.

Self Love Magical Card Spell

This is a great spell for the beginning of something—your day, week, month, or even your year. Though this spell can be used to manifest anything, I consider this a self love ritual because it’s all about celebrating YOU and your ever-loyal intuition.

What You’ll Need:

  • A tarot deck or oracle deck
  • A cauldron or fireproof container
  • A citrine crystal
  • Matches or a lighter
  • A sheet of paper
  • A writing utensil

Sit in front of your cauldron (or fireproof container) and place your citrine crystal inside of the cauldron. Write one thing you really love about yourself on a slip of paper. Fold it in half and set it near your cauldron. Next, write one thing you’d like to bring into your life. This can be whatever you want—money, love, success, a new job, a vacation, or emotional healing. It doesn’t matter what you choose as long as it feels a little out of your reach.

Keeping those intentions in mind, begin shuffling your magical card deck. When your intuition tells you to stop shuffling, cut the deck, then fan the cards out in front of you.

Close your eyes and hold your left hand out in front of you with your palm up. Mentally ask your spirit guides (or the universe, your deities, your intuition, etc) to send their energy into your hand.

Wait for any kind of sensation in your hand that indicates you’ve received some power. Maybe you feel a tingling in your pinky finger. Maybe the middle of your palm feels a bit of pressure. You might feel an itch, a change in temperature, or nothing at all. Don’t overthink this. If you think you feel something—no matter how subtle—that’s great! If you don’t feel anything after about sixty seconds, no worries! Trust that you’ve either received the power without feeling the sensation or that it was already inside of you.

Hold your left hand over the cards and move it over each card until you feel the urge to pick one up.

Look at the card and let its meaning sink in. (If you don’t know the meaning off-hand, look it up online or in the book that came with your deck.) Ask yourself these two questions:

  1. How do I embody the positive aspects of this card? (Even the “negative” cards in the tarot deck have positive aspects to them. For this specific ritual, only focus on the positive implications.)
  2. How can this card’s energy help me manifest my intention?

You can either answer these questions in your head or journal your answers.

When you feel like you’ve explored the message of the card, burn your two slips of paper in your cauldron (or fireproof container) and let the ashes settle over the citrine crystal. Citrine is a self-cleansing crystal that is perfect for manifesting all kinds of things.

Self Love Altar

Make a special altar dedicated to self love. I have one right by my bed and I love waking up and falling asleep while gazing at it.

What You’ll Need:

  • A small to medium-sized mirror
  • Rose quartz, clear quartz, amethyst, orange calcite, citrine, carnelian, or any crystal you feel drawn to
  • A piece of paper or a bit of modeling clay
  • Glitter, tissue paper, markers, colored pencils, and other art supplies

Put on some music, light a candle, and pour yourself a glass of something yummy to put yourself in a good mood while you create your self love altar.

Lay a mirror flat on a tabletop. Arrange your assortment of crystals in any kind of design that you find pleasing. Don’t worry about looking up meanings or crystal grid diagrams. Just go by pure intuition.

Create a piece of art the represents your favorite attributes about yourself. Draw yourself (abstract or realistic) on a piece of paper or use your clay to sculpt something that highlights your unique awesomeness. Have fun with this and use whatever supplies you have in your house.

Put your artwork in the center or your altar to celebrate the amazing person you are! Think a positive thought whenever you happen to glance at the altar and take time every day to honor yourself in some way at your special altar.

Your Self Love Magical Practice

Sometimes, we get so focused on manifesting things that we forget how important it is to celebrate ourselves. Having a healthy level of self love is the key to a thriving magical practice. Keep performing these spells on a regular basis to find a magical practice that feels good for you. You can also experiment with adding self love rituals into your other spells. You’ll likely notice better results from your magic and you’ll feel great, too!
